AFROMIX is  a cross-cultural exchange project between artists and cultures of Reunion Island and South Africa, led by Durban-based production company Blue Fire, and Reunion cultural NPO Bouge a Zot.


Afromix unites 4 South African and 7 Reunion Island artists through percussion, dance and circus arts.

Siyabonga Mkhombe – Dancer (contemporary, Zulu, gumboots, indian) & drummer

Durban's artist Siya is one of the most famous drummers of the area (West African rhythms,

djembe and Dun Dun). He facilitates weekly workshops at the Drum Café. 

He is also performing regularly , in Kwazulu Natal, at a professional level for various events as

a Zulu and gumboots dancer

Lew Tasker – Circus arts performer

South-African artist based in Durban, Lew has been performing professionally for more than

10 years as a fire spinner and circus artist. (stilts, juggling etc.)


Bo Tasker – Circus artist and drummer
South-African artist based in Durban, Bo has been performing for more than 10 years as a

professional fire spinner, drummer and stilt walker in circus, clubs, casinos, Festivals (eg. World Cup Fan Festival) as well as private functions around South Africa.



Eva Labrousse – Dance lead (contemporary, gumboots, african)
Dancer with classical training (13 years), contemporary (4 years) and afro-dance (4 years). Performing in various dance companies, in France and Reunion Island. She also worked in 2011 with the choreographer Luis Sala, from the National Dance Company of Mozambique



François Prud'homme – Music lead (djembe, dun dun, ngoni)
François specialised in Mandingue music and djembe drumming over the last 10 years.  Trained by the artistic group "les Yelemba d'Abidjan", he's been performing as a percussionist in several musical bands in France and Reunion Island



Christian Hache – Musician (drums, flute), singer, clown

Musician performing with many bands in Reunion (Woba Kele, Djigoni, Simangavol, Maloyakoustik) since 1995. In 2009, he tours Southern Africa with Woba Kele (Lake of Stars, Alliances Francaise), and in 2010 in Burkina Faso with Simangavol.



Marie Daucros – Dancer (west African, contemporary)

Experienced in street and stage performances within Beninakan and Simangavol bands since 2007. In 2012 she toured in Burkina Faso with Simangavol, one of the main Moringue, Drumming and Afro-dance company of Reunion.



Dany Sumera- Moring dancer, acrobatics, musician (dun dun, djembe, ngoni)
Moringue dancer within Simangavol band, he regularly performs around Reunion. He also facilitates moringue and acrobatics workshops for youth in St-Pierre, Reunion.

 

Sylvain Boussion – Musician (balafon)
Sylvain has been learning Balafon (the West-African form of marimba) for 10 years with masters from West Africa (Burkina Faso) and is now playing and touring with the band Afoy from Reunion Island.



Karim Soret – Musician (dun dun, balafon, ngoni)
Experienced street and stage performer, Participating in many festivals in Reunion: Zot Movie,  Leu Tempo…

Kim Paul

Artistic Advisor

 From Durban, Kim is a professional artist with 15 years experience as a gymnast, sport coach, acrobat, choreographer, Stage Director, fire spinning & drumming performer,
and workshops/training facilitator.
She has been performing in circus, clubs, casinos, festivals (eg. Celebrate Durban, World
Cup Fan Festival, COP17) and private functions around South Africa.
En 2010, she is the co-founder of Blue Fire Productions, an innovative Media Production Service focusing on socio economic upliftment through creative collaboration and high skill deliveries in the performance arts, sport and media industries.

Sibusiso Khambule

Artistic and Stage Director, Performer (actor,  clown, zulu dancer)
From Soweto, Sibusiso trained in physical theatre at Lecoq school in France. He performs in many theatre pieces in South Africa (Pygmalion, Lion King, Gift from God, Unveilling), TV programmes (Bang, Bang Club, Soul City), street theatre (Action, Mupako), and directs 3 pieces: Living with it (Ipelegeng Community Center), Gift from God (Civic Theatre), and Unveilling (DFS Wits Theatre of Johannesburg). He is also part of Clowns Without Borders core staff since 2010.
