THE PROJECT

AFROMIX is  a cross-cultural exchange project between artists and cultures of Reunion Island and South Africa, led by Durban-based production company Blue Fire, and Reunion cultural NPO Bouge a Zot.

Afromix unites 4 South African and 7 Reunion Island artists through percussion, dance and circus arts.

Vision
The vision of the project is to create and distribute an innovative show promoting the cultures of South Africa and Reunion Island through cultural and artistic exchange periods and initiatives.
The vision of the project is to have South African and Reunion Island artists with various skills
- creating and performing an innovative multi-disciplinary show
- exchanging artistic skills and growing professionally
- sharing their cultures through artistic workshops and various audiences’ encounters.

One of the objectives is also to contribute to international solidarity projects, by performing the show for disadvantaged audiences, when possible financially and logistically.

Objectives
1. Promote artistic and cultural exchange between Reunion Island and South Africa.
2. Offer insight to Reunion island audiences about Southern and Western Africa cultures and promote Reunion island arts and culture within Southern Africa.
3. Innovate by creating a show intertwining very different types of arts: modern circus and Reunion-African influenced music and dances
4. Encourage international exposure of South African professional artists
5. Uplift Reunion semi-professional artists to international professional level
6. Ensure artistic skills transfer and a long-term sustainable cultural exchange initiative
7. Favour international solidarity initiatives
